I remember one dog in particular, and her
name was Gretel. She was a nice, great dog i remember &
find her stories quite cute. At that time, we lived in a suburb of Houston
called Highlands. We owned 4 dogs I believe it was & we rescued 2 kitties
out of a tree on our street. We had a couple of small doggies in the backyard
that I hear always tried to crawl under the fence & get away. Gretel was a
doberman that always snuck in & climbed on our beds, but hid under them when
mom or dad walked in. The kitties, though, were young & we found them homes
quickly. Of course, I was under 4 at that time, I probably have some of this
wrong.
Then there was 4 yrs in Dallas.. Dallas rules..I love the downtown skyline...
Have you seen the beautiful ball that lights up? That's a reason right there to
go to Dallas.. it's so much prettier than Houston's skyline at night.
We have a dog named Lucy who is active, cute, and doesn't look at all like her
age. She still acts the way she did at age 2 when we adopted her. Lucy turns 11
in August. Hope was a 10-yr-old half-blind, half-deaf rott when we adopted her
from a lady in Pasadena who lied & said she was 2, but Hope was in such a
bad condition, we took her to give her a good home for the 6 months she lived
after that. 2 days before she died, Jason scared her & she bit him in the
face, but she didn't know she'd even done it. Then came Abby, the 2 & 1/2
yr-old rott we adopted from CAPS (below) that had heart worms. She was a
beautiful, loving, active dog. She's now living with a nice family on a big
farm where she can have lots of room to run & play. Dad's cousin then
offered us our very first kitten (opps.. look what happened...) he was a male
manx kitten. We named him Magick. He was obviously Jason's cat. Since Lucy
appears to disappear during the upper part..I should point out that we have had
Lucy every day since we adopted her. She just hides in the background for a
little while while I discuss the past pets & the history of how we came to
have 7 at this time. Have you ever tried sleeping on a single size bed with 7
animals? sheesh..
& as for the cats...I should say I only have 1 cat, Simba.. the rest just
live in my room. We have 2 male cats named Pokie & Simba, & 4 female
cats named Misty, Raven, Wilbur & Nala. ((We did NOT name Simba &
Nala.. those were their names when we got them.)) Every animal we have we
rescued from somewhere - Lucy came from CAPS [Citizen for Animal Protection];
Wilbur, Misty, & Raven are the 3 sister cats we got all at once right
before Magick disappeared forever, from a friend who couldn't keep them;
Fiddlesticks (a kitten) showed up next.. unfortunately, it died within 2 days
of showing up.. there was nothing that could be done for it; Pokie came
next...I forget which animal actually possessed us to go to the vet - I'm
guessing Lucy since the cats attack a lot when going to the vets - but that's
when we met Pokemon (Pokie for short) - he literally looks like multiple
pokemon put together. His owners dropped him off for boarding vets can do when
you're going to be away (as if we could afford that service anymore), &
they decided they weren't going gonna pick him up. He was a baby kitten &
they decided they didn't want him anymore. So.. here came cat #4. By this time,
dad was so not happy. Then Jason & I took a job working for a lady that
claimed to run a legitimate service (I can't remember the word, sorry).. let's
just put it this way.. it wasn't. In her home, she had 50 cats & 50 dogs at
least & she was never home - no one took care of them. The place we were
cleaning (disgusting place!)... I feel so bad for the animals.. but we couldn't
save them all.. there were more there than at her house of dogs & cats that
weren't being taken care of, except when we showed up a couple times a week. We
couldn't handle it for long obviously. I'm so againstanimal cruelty! The point
I'm getting to was that's where Nala & Simba lived. The deal with the lady
was, since Jessie (she used to live with us) wanted to adopt Nala, that to get
Nala, we had to adopt her "brother" Simba. Now, these 2 cats are
absolutely nothing alike. Nala was easy to catch - she hoped in Jessie's arms
immediately to get petted.. but Simba? He was work.. Jason had to chase him
down around the place for over 45mins before we finally caught him. Simba
immediately went under my bed & stayed there for 2 yrs after we got him. He
finally came out to let me hold him, but wouldn't venture anywhere else. After
about a 2 & 1/2 yrs he ventured into the living room (this was a big
deal!), but freaked out at the sight of anyone & hid under my bed for a
week again. He has gotten over most of that now, but still he runs & hides
under my bed a lot when Jason or Dad or someone else walks in.. he's been known
to do it with me even. Poor baby. Obviously, from the behavior of some of the
animals we've adopted in the past, they were badly abused & I wish I could
stop that. I'm going to mention the two other animals that virtually live here
but actually belong to Barbara.. Phantom, the 3-4 month (estimation) kitten,
showed up on Feb.1st this year on Galveston, and said, "I'm going with
you."... the other animal is Annie.. she is a rescued previously abused
8-yr-old papillon dog.. rescued in Oct. '02 I believe was the month.. poor
baby.. she's coming around though.. she's letting people pet her now... I'm
telling her she's loved & appreciated.. gotta give her some self-confidence
that those other people took away from her for 8-yrs..

There are many sites online to learn more about this problem.. Don't become a

many informative websites out there. Read them before you decide you want a pet
or maybe a second or third.
(I worked at Petsmart after all...)
What I'm about to say, I can see a lot of
people going, "Hold up... you're bitching us out over what you're doing
now? I think not!"... but you've got to remember that I have had my
animals for years, that we rescued them since they were homeless &/or
abused, and that we never intended on moving, since we owned the house we lived
in... now onwards.. we cannot afford to keep all the animals we have anymore
once we move... & thus, I took it upon myself to find them suitable adoptee
homes instead of taking them to a shelter... Nala was immediately adopted by a
family who was looking for a lap cat who loves attention.. & Pokie was
adopted that following weekend by a family who had previously had a, not quite
so big cat, but another male domestic long hair... Nala & Pokie are indeed
loving their new homes.. they really did need homes where they could get more
attention than we could give them. The three sisters unfortunately never found
a home before we moved. Many people backed out after offering, & thus, they
went to CAPs. I cried the entire time there, back, & continue to cry when I
get a mental image of how upset they were. I know in my heart that they will be
happier whereever they do indeed end up. *send them safe, healing energy to be
adopted* I will never know since I can't find out. When you give up a pet, you
give up all rights to them completely.
Simba, as you probably noticed, was the only cat I didn't put up for adoption -
this was a family decision, not just mine - since he was so scared when he
first got here, we don't want him to go through that terror again. & Lucy,
seeing as she's turning 11 in aug & I've had her 9-yrs.. I wasn't putting
her up for adoption - even if she didn't have heartworms I wouldn't do that to
her.. we got her from a shelter to begin with (the HW's is our fault, not
CAPs.)
On a side note: our step-family's three brother cats are moving in
tomorrow...well, rather, today. (Yes, I feel the same way. I had to give up my
three sister cats to get three brother cats...) The fourth cat and the dog are
being put up for adoption... most likely CAPs. What with the family living
here, they aren't getting attention anymore (they currently live at the other
house.)
So here's what I know about them: Athos, Porthos, & Merlin... one of them
does the "buddha" stunt... he sits in the "buddha"
position. one of them looks like a fat Misty (which will indeed upset me a
lot). & the other one, looks like a big Nala (that one won't upset me b/c I
know Nala is happy.)
As for the dog, Nata is an unspayed 2 yr old dog that has ADHD &
would kill Lucy if she came here. Not b/c she's aggressive, b/c she's not, but
b/c she's so hyper (although, from what I've seen of her, she's less hyper than
Abby was.) & the cat... Calista is unspayed also, but thinks she's queen of
the house, & wouldn't get along with the kitten Phantom who also lives
here.
It's been a long time since I've updated
this page. I really haven't had much of a patience to update anything,
especially not this page since it brings up lots of bad memories. Here's how it
stands now: Lucy and Simba are still with me. They are my babies and will be
with me even when we move later this year. Lucy is around 13 years old, and
Simba is probably 8 or 9 realistically.
I'm still living with dad, and that means we still have several other animals.
Phantom, Calista, Porthos, Athos, Narnia (Nia), Taz, and Panda. Calista ended
up just staying with us, and Annie died a few months after my last update.
Merlin died last year. Nia, Taz, and Panda are all rescue papillons. Nia and
Panda are rather old, and Taz is about 2. Taz is Panda's grand-daughter. I'd
post pictures, but I'm not up to the task at the moment, and therefore shall
forget to.
A new update (September 2006): Calista now
lives with me. I had Lucy put down on May 31, 2006, about 2 weeks after we
moved. She developed lymphonoma. Simba also lives with me, obviously. Barbara
now has a new dog named Tallie to go along with the other pets. Jason and I
also have two more, named Faraday and Prolific, but I won’t go into the details
at the moment.
